There’s no better weekend to visit Scranton, PA than Labor Day Weekend. The Steamtown National Historic Site hosts their annual Railfest while downtown transforms into the famous La Festa Italiana. And this year, you have the opportunity to ride two excursions behind vintage diesel locomotives on lines once owned by the Erie and Delaware, Lackawanna & Western railroads.

This exciting day of heritage railroads begins at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA.

August 31, 2019

9:00am Pick up tickets at the Steamtown Ticket office.

10:00am Depart Steamtown by bus to Honesdale, PA “The Birthplace of the American Railroad”

11:00am Tour The Wayne County Historical Society Museum and see the replica of famous The Stourbridge Lion, the first locomotive to run on commercial railroad tracks in the western hemisphere.

11:45am Board the Stourbridge Line train for a scenic ride aboard vintage coaches along the old Erie Railroad route hugging the banks of the Lackawaxen River where you will see parts of the D&H Canal, go through rock cuts and learn interesting facts about the history of railroading where it all began. The train will return to the bus at Hawley station. The train is expected to be pulled by historic BL2 and F7 locomotives.

1:45 pm Board the bus for a 45 minute trip to Moscow in time to check
out the historic station. Have your cameras ready for a photo run-by.

4:15pm Board the Steamtown train to Scranton and travel on the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western mainline through the scenic Roaring Brook Gorge and Nay Aug Tunnel. The train is expected to be pulled by historic GP7 and possibly F3 locomotives.

5:00pm Arrive at Steamtown in Scranton
