Thanks to a substantial grant from the Scranton Area Foundation, Steamtown Museum Association Fund we were able to award a contract to have the entire interior of the station painted. This project was long overdue as the last it was painted is when the station was reopened for Steamtown USA excursions.
To prepare for the painting, it was necessary to remove everything from the inside. The contents were split up between the freight station and a rented container. Thanks to several Chapter volunteers, we made short order of getting the station ready. Worn out bathroom electric heating units were removed as were the toilets. These will be replaced with new equipment. There will be some other additional upgrades such as window coverings and electrical outlet covers.
The painting contractor started his prep work on November 3, 2021 and completed the project on December 15, 2021. Special Thanks go out to Roy and Vee Pauli for their donation to add a special trim at the ceiling cove. This area was painted with the authentic DL&W RR gray and maroon trim.
Our next project, insulating and replacing the station floor is awaiting the announcement of a grant that has been applied for. We are hoping for good news soon.
Until this work is completed the station contents will remain stored.
